The Big Picture –
By Glynn Wilson –
WASHINGTON, D.C. – It could be the after effects of the Benadryl, or the simmering summer heat. But I find myself moving a little slow in the mornings these days, almost dreading opening the web browser window to the New York Times, where writers who do not need the money keep trying to tell us what we need to do like we are all a bunch of fifth graders who can’t see the writing on the wall.
I shared the key links on Facebook, so feel no need to summarize here, except to repeat what I said in the comments on a story claiming to have the answers on what Democrats need to do going forward to reclaim votes from the uneducated, working class masses.
“No, the Democrats need candidates who don’t sound like political hacks and policy wonks,” I said. “Like this article.”
The Seeds of Democratic Revival Have Already Been Sown
All the Democrats need to do is read and/or listen to one of Bernie Sanders’ stump speeches. They all say basically the same thing, what he’s been saying since before he nearly captured the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in 2016.
State of the Working Class” Speech
So OK, Sanders is an asshole and a socialist from the dinky state of Vermont, and the party establishment and the elites in New York and Washington could not allow him to take over the party as the nominee, even if they had to corruptly rig the primaries against him to do it and even though the overwhelming results of polling in 2016 showed he could have beaten Trump by a mile and we would all be living in a very different world now, not withstanding Covid. He was the only candidate polling above 50 percent back then, while Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were both tied in the mid-40s. Neither had a chance of winning a majority of the people over.
Do not mistake me for a Bernie Bro fan. I know from talking to people in Washington who know him that Bernie is a dick. He and his staff even refused to let me interview him back then. So fuck him, since he would not have been a great choice for president anyway. He’s too old. But not for the Senate, where we need him breathing fire on the floor and in committee rooms when he gets the chance.
But he was saying all the right things to reach this working class that the Democrats have lost and Trump managed to gather up into his fold by hook and crook. What he was saying then actually united both the left wing of the Democratic Party and the uneducated working class. The class that stood against it was the milk toast middle of the road Democrats and Republicans who thought we should all be talking about “kitchen table issues.” They are trying to make the same case now – and they are just fucking wrong.
The Democrats need to be on the attack against Trump on behalf of these average Americans Trump claims as his own, even while stabbing them in the back right in front of their faces.
What To Do About Trump? Democrats Hope to Retake the House and Senate in 2026 and Impeach Him Again
And not only are they wrong, but they are fucking boring! No one will ever win another election in this country by boring people to death with political hackery and policy wonkiness. Being woke is not really the problem. It is being wonky that drives people away in droves.
If the Times, or NPR for that matter, had bothered to cover this story accurately, Trump could have been avoided, at least the second time. This is the first day when America screwed up and went to hell. Read it and weep.
Fascist Dictator Donald Trump Stuns American Establishment, Defeats Hillary Clinton for President
After a long trip out West before the election in 2016, 6,000 miles in 28 days, we made it back to Mobile, Alabama in time to vote, and to cover the outcome of the election. I know nobody has time and doesn’t read anymore, but our archives from November, 2016, are pretty instructive for anyone inclined to examine the history and realize the facts.

Long before anyone came up with the sensational term “sane washing” for what the press and media were doing to normalize Trump, we ran this article written by author Neal Gabler:
And So it Begins: Watch the Mainstream Media Normalize Trump’s Election
After three long, excruciating years of having to listen to Trump’s stupid bullshit posted on Twitter and reported by every news outlet in the land, we arrived in Pensacola, Florida in March, 2020, just in time to cover the beginning of the national emergency over the coronavirus pandemic, hereafter referred to as Covid-19.
This was the second day when America screwed up and went to hell.

Then on the third day, Trump was headed for power again.
In the summer and fall of 2024, anticipating the pending doom of a Trump comeback to the White House, I fled the Washington, D.C. area and headed west toward Arkansas and Missouri, where I watched the American people embrace hell on Earth with a vengeance.
After seeing the writing on the wall and the election go bad, I headed north toward Missouri and spent a night off the grid in Devil’s Den and a few nights camping by rivers in and around the Mark Twain National Forest.

Cataracts
I’m now biding my time until I get the left eye fixed with cataract surgery on July 24. I can see from here to Richmond with my right eye, to borrow a phrase from a very nice little old lady working at the Greenbelt Co-Op grocery, who noticed my sunglasses and figured I had cataracts. After a week of recovery on the second eye, I will be ready to go downtown at night again, and put my newfound night vision superpower to work going after Steve Bannon and company.
Like the King of Dreams Morpheus in “The Sandman” series on Netflix, and Perseus before him, I’m going to pay the ferryman Charon to cross the River Styx and make my way into hell, and see if I can recover enough power to expose and stop some of this crap that passes for understanding these days.
“The peace of God” may “surpass all understanding,” but wisdom is really not that hard to come by. But in some cases it does require going there and seeing it for yourself. You just may find that you are not satisfied with what you see and hear on cable TeeVee, public radio, or social media, or some chat bot.
