Marjorie Taylor Greene speaking at the Alabama Federation of Republican Women event: Grady Thornton

By Glynn Wilson –

WASHINGTON, D.C. — At the risk of giving Georgia’s nut job Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene more of the kind of press and attention she craves, and her followers more reason to double down and give her money like they do former White House con man Donald Trump, let’s just say Green showed up in Dothan, Alabama recently and made a big money haul by saying the kinds of crazy things Trump followers seem to fall for, over and over again.

Montgomery’s little political news site that wants to be the state’s Politico reported on the event, after a YouTube guy obtained a Twitter video of some of the remarks she made.

They chose to headline the fact that attendees of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women event at the Civic Center in Dothan applauded when she pointed out that Alabama has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, which of course is no laughing matter and certainly nothing to be proud of.

“The crowd, who paid $100 each to hear Greene speak, cheered exuberantly and clapped at her comments,” they reported.

But of course that was not really the big news of the event, as re-reported later by the online clickbait division of NBC News.

The big news was that Green urged “Southerners” to threaten with guns any health care workers who knock on their doors urging them to get a vaccine and wear a mask to protect themselves, their families, neighbors and friends, by calling them “President Joe Biden’s ‘police state friends’.”

The event in July was “closed to the media,” according to NBC, or the “media were made to leave,” according to the Political Reporter, but YouTube sensationalist broadcaster David Pakman obtained a Twitter video of some of the remarks, which he tweeted, of course. Twitter and YouTube are the favorite platforms of sensational clickbait creators and followers everywhere.

“You lucky people here in Alabama might get a knock on your door, because I hear Alabama might be one of the most unvaccinated states,” Greene told the crowd, prompting cheers and applause over the state’s low vaccination rate.

“Well, Joe Biden wants to come talk to you guys. He’s going to be sending one of his police state friends to your front door to knock on the door, take down your name, your address, your family members’ names, your phone numbers, your cellphone numbers, probably ask for your Social Security number and whether you’ve taken the vaccine or not.”

“What they don’t know is in the South, we all love our Second Amendment rights, and we’re not real big on strangers showing up on our front door, are we? They might not like the welcome they get,” she continued.

Greene was referring to the administration’s Covid surge response teams or grassroots volunteers encouraging vaccinations. The teams, made up of experts from FEMA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other federal agencies, aim to help states with low vaccination rates “prevent, detect and respond” to the spread of the delta variant.

NBC reached out to Greene’s office for comment on the video and to confirm it showed her at the event. Her spokesman, Nick Dyer, simply replied, “These claims are ridiculous and yet another conspiracy theory from the left,” without specifying what claims he meant, of course.

It takes a conspiracy theory nut to know one.

The state news site went on to report that Alabama is tied with Mississippi with the lowest percentage of fully COVID-19 vaccinated residents in the country. The unvaccinated accounted for 97 percent of recently hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Alabama, according to UAB. Of the 2,379 COVID-19 deaths confirmed in Alabama between Jan. 19 and June 30, unvaccinated individuals accounted for 99 percent, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

New cases and hospitalizations continue to climb across Alabama. There were 1,694 hospitalized with COVID-19 in Alabama on Tuesday, a 73 percent increase in one week and a 206 percent increase compared to two weeks ago.

The state reported 3,442 new cases in the latest data updated Wednesday, bringing the seven-day average of newly reported cases to 2,635, a 140 percent increase from two weeks ago.

“I would say, for those individuals, organizations that are feeding misinformation and trying to mischaracterize this type of ‘trusted messenger’ work, I believe you are doing a disservice to the country and to the doctors, the faith leaders, community leaders and others who are working to get people vaccinated, save lives, and help end this pandemic,” White House’s COVID coordinator Jeff Zients said in a press briefing.

Of course the Alabama Republican Party had plausible deniability of the entire affair.

“The Alabama Republican Party did not host or sponsor the event with Marjorie Taylor Greene, and therefore have no firsthand knowledge of the comments made,” said ALGOP chairman John Wahl in a statement to APR on Wednesday.

I guess you have to feel sorry for the poor people of Alabama, who literally have nowhere to turn for reliable, trusted news and information. Is it any wonder that they trust the people they see covered on TeeVee by every channel with their false and incendiary remarks reported as legitimate news, even by long-standing hallmark national network news channels like NBC?

What if legitimate news outlets simply ignored this kind of stuff, rather than sharing it for the traffic and all the money they can make for their corporations by boosting it?

Oh, well. We have much more of this crap to look forward to over the next three years, as Trump continues to exercise his power over the Republican Party and who gets nominated to run for office.

We went to a lot of trouble to help get a real Senator elected in Alabama in 2017, and for three years, Senator Doug Jones of Birmingham did the job and actually served and helped the people of the hidebound red state, defined as “unwilling or unable to change because of tradition or convention.”

Of course they rejected reelecting him in 2020, instead installing a dumbass former Auburn football coach named Tommy Tuberville to the Senate, where he will do exactly nothing for the people but get himself richer.

He should be in jail too along with Trump and Congressman Mo Brooks for his role in inciting insurrection on Jan. 6, and threatening American democracy with sedition and treason.
