Trump Titanic2 - Floating on Polluted Waters in a Sinking Ship

MOBILE, Ala. — We are floating on polluted waters in a sinking ship.

We might as well look at the U.S.S. United States of America as The Titanic. Remember, it was the ship that was not supposed to sink.

When it became obvious that it hit an iceberg and was going down, there were not enough lifeboats or life jackets to save everybody, not even close. The ship’s designer and captain really thought it would never sink.

That’s us.

We survived the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Great Depression and even World War II. We have seen and survived great adversity before, the argument goes. So we will somehow survive Trump too.

Maybe we can, or maybe Donald Trump the money laundering kingpin reality TV star who became president is our fatal iceberg.

The other day I came up with the term flotsam and jetsam to describe the media sea, and it just got worse on Sunday. So I am inspired to continue with the metaphor and analogy.

There is so much junk being thrown overboard by the mainstream news outlets now to try to get traffic and stop their own support news ships from sinking that there is a risk they will run all over each other’s junk and drown us all.

The violin player in the Titanic band everyone is now listening to is a small time tea party Republican Congressman from South Carolina named Trey Gowdy. This is the guy who wrote the Republican memo attacking the FBI everyone tweeted this past week that was finally declassified by the president because it purportedly clears him of any wrongdoing in the election by proving the FBI was just a partisan tool of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

I am not going to dignify this memo by linking to it. And I am not going to share any links to any of the news coverage about it either. I have read the memo and most of the coverage. None of it, in my view, has a shred of credibility. It’s all junk.

Just Google Trey Gowdy to view all this pollution of the airwaves. Google Carter Page.

There are leftist writers who I used to respect now siding with the Republicans claiming the FBI is guilty of crimes for not revealing that the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee were clients who helped pay for the so-called Steele Dossier, even though it is obvious that the FBI had independently hired Christopher Steele as an intelligence source and his information was only part of what was used to obtain a FISA court warrant to investigate Carter Page.

Of course there are conservative news sources who are screaming in big, bold headlines that this memo exonerates Trump.

What’s most discouraging is that every so-called objective mainstream news outlet in the sea is just reporting both sides in their “fair and balanced” way as always, trying to convince readers they are the news outlet you can trust and the one you should be sharing on Facebook.

The problem is this. All this junk is another diversion and qualifies as small time flotsam. We are arguing over one piece of oak furniture floating in the ocean. Meanwhile the big iceberg that will sink us is still looming on the horizon.

The management of every news outlet seems to think they have no choice but to keep following every piece of this jetsam clickbait so they can make their money and stay afloat, hoping the sun will come out and melt the iceberg just in time.

Hey, maybe it will. Maybe the Democrats can take over control of both houses of Congress in the 2018 midterm elections and Special Counsel Robert Mueller will finally come out with a report that proves Trump colluded with Russia in the 2016 presidential election. Maybe the Democrats will have the votes then to impeach Trump and end our national nightmare with the orange iceberg in the White House.

But what if every national and local newspaper, every national and local television news station and every blogger with half a brain would just come out and state the obvious. It is clear to me at least that Trump’s entire empire — the casinos, the hotels, the real estate — was built as a money laundering operation for the Russian mob. There really is no need to keep trying to track every transaction with the so-called Russian oligarchs.

I mean Howard Dean may be the smartest man in American next to me. He came out and said it recently on national television. Some people shared it on Facebook and Twitter, then Wolf Blather and the publicly traded New York Times and the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post and everybody else just jumped on to the next piece of flotsam and kept the story moving from one piece of debris to the next.

Here is it: Trump is Running a Criminal Enterprise Out of the White House.

What is the FBI waiting for? Whey didn’t Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein just send a team of agents over to the U.S. Capitol the other day and arrest Trump during his fake news State of the Union Address? Nothing he said was accurate. It’s all one big distracting lie after another to fool enough of the people enough of the time to keep this idiocy reality show on TV.

The evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors is overwhelming. To their credit, the mainstream media has pretty much documented it all. The problem is they have also published every denial as if it was equally valid.

So as is often the case in a democracy, it will be up to the people to save it.

May I humbly suggest that staging gender specific marches and rallies peacefully walking around in city parks with smiles and funny signs it not the answer? What if a million people staged an “occupy” style sit in surrounding the White House and vowed not to leave until the criminal occupant is removed in handcuffs or a straight jacket? The media would have no choice but to cover that around the 24-hour news cycle clock.

Law enforcement agencies and politicians of every stripe would have no choice but to deal with it.

But of course this will never happen. It’s “too hard.”

Brace yourself for impact. Grab a lifeboat and a lifejacket — if you can find one.

The iceberg is dead ahead.

Bill Maher gets it.

(1) Walter-great cartoon. (2) When SS America does start to go down-the GOP, like George-on that fire episode of SIENFELD, will push aside the elderly, disabled, women and children for his own personal safety at the expense of all others: “Every Man for Himself…” This, sadly, is modern day America.
